UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK BACHELOR OF EDUCATION DEGREE (BEd)
The University of New Brunswick Bachelor of Education Degree for Primary School Teachers BEd (Elementary Education) seeks to equip educators aspiring to become leaders with the necessary skills and tools required to forge ahead into the new millenium.
OBJECTIVE
Through a sequence of educational experiences integrating theory and practice, The University of New Brunswick (UNB) Faculty of Education and ROYTEC provide opportunities for the academic and professional development of teachers. Students acquire the knowledge, ethical standards, skills, dispositions and flexibility needed to address current problems in education both creatively and effectively, and to think critically about professional practice.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
Teachers would be updated in the subject areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Aesthetics (including Art, Music and Drama), Science and Social Studies. Teachers will also have an opportunity to learn how to apply Technology in the classroom. In the Learning with Technology module teachers would become competent in all aspects of classroom technology, distance education technology and the Internet as an educational resource. Through distance education teachers will have the opportunity to practice with this wide range of technology.
DELIVERY AND SUPPORT
The programme will be delivered via distance learning using the World Wide Web and supported by a series of Intensive face-to-face Workshops facilitated by UNB Professors, local tutors from ROYTEC and special assistance from programme Mentors. The pedagogical component, eight (8) required block programmes, will be introduced in the intensive face-to-face workshops of a minimum of thirty (30) hours on site. The Intensive face-to-face Workshops are offered during the school vacation break, Saturdays or Sundays and on evenings after school hours in Trinidad and Tobago.
PROGRAMME CO-ORDINATOR
Programme co-ordinators in Trinidad and Tobago and at UNB will maintain constant contact to facilitate the administration of the programme.
